Jonathan Phang began his career in the 1980s managing some of the world’s most influential fashion models, including Jerry Hall, Naomi Campbell, Jodie Kidd, Tyra Banks, Nicky Taylor and Liv Tyler.
Jonathan’s experience won him a much-coveted role as a judge on the hit show “Britain’s Next Top Model”. His straight-talking, no-nonsense approach proved instantly popular, and he remained with the show for three series before leaving to mentor disabled contestants on BBC3’s ground-breaking “Britain’s Missing Top Model.” The series won a RADAR Media Award for Best Factual Programming.
British-born Jonathan grew up in a mixed-race Chinese-Caribbean household. Food was one of the Phang family’s primary focuses, and Jonathan’s passion for cooking began as soon as he could pick up a mixing spoon.
His cookbook,” The Pepperpot Club – A Celebration of Caribbean Cuisine,” was published by Hardie Grant and Rizzoli and was nominated for an International Gourmand Award. Jonathan’s recipes have appeared in countless international magazines, including The Times, S Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Guardian Weekend, Radio Times, The Straits Times, and Easy Jet Magazine.
Jonathan was a regular guest on “Market Kitchen” for its entire three-year run, cooking, book reviewing, reporting on international food trends, judging competitions, and presenting seasonal specials.
Jonathan was a news reader for DIVA Radio for three years and a television reviewer for BBC Radio London for six years.
For Food Network and Travel Channel, Jonathan presented gastronomic travelogues called “Caribbean Cookbook” and “Gourmet Trains.” In the past year Jonathan has appeared regularly on both ITV’s “Love Your Weekend” and “Saturday with James Martin.”
