In retirement, Tanni has continued to impact public life significantly. In 2005, she was made Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE for her services to sport, and in 2010, she was elevated to the House of Lords as a crossbench peer. She focuses on sport, disability, health, welfare, and youth development, contributing to key debates on welfare reform, assisted dying, and sports governance.
Tanni holds numerous influential positions, including Non-Executive Director of the BBC, board member of Transport for London, Chair of ukactive, Chancellor of Northumbria University, and President of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations. She is also an ambassador for UNICEF, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and Beyond Sport, advocating for social change through sport.
As a respected authority on disability sporting issues, Tanni is a key part of the BBC’s Paralympic coverage team and a regular television and radio journalist. Her contributions were recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year show.
