About Bill Burke
Bill’s career highlights include serving as CEO of The Weather Channel Companies and as founding general manager of Turner Classic Movies while at Time Warner. At just 29, he became president of TBS Superstation, showcasing his visionary leadership. He worked closely with CNN founder Ted Turner, co-authoring the top-10 New York Times best-seller Call Me Ted. For 15 years, Bill also co-owned and chaired the Portland Sea Dogs, the double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
Bill’s storytelling acumen extends to filmmaking. He co-wrote, produced, and directed Live Another Day, an award-winning documentary on the U.S. auto industry bailout. These experiences cemented his belief in the power of optimistic leadership to overcome challenges and inspire growth.
Motivated by the negative impact of news and social media on mental health, Bill launched The Optimism Institute and its Blue Sky podcast to foster hope and resilience. Through compelling interviews and evidence-based insights, he promotes a forward-looking vision for individuals and society.
A lifelong optimist, Bill Burke’s work empowers others to embrace a mindset that drives innovation, resilience, and lasting impact in both personal and professional spheres.
