About Dr Kate Hays
Dr Kate Hays is the Head of Women’s Psychology at The FA, bringing over 20 years of experience in performance psychology and working within multidisciplinary teams. Her expertise spans multiple sports, where she has supported athletes and teams in winning titles at major global events such as World Championships, the Olympics, and their professional equivalents. Most recently, she played a pivotal role as part of the team behind the team at the Women’s Euros 2022 and the 2023 World Cup.
Prior to joining The FA, Kate spent over seven years with the UK Sport Institute (UKSI), where she led the national psychology strategy for the Rio and Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. In her role as TeamGB’s HQ psychologist for the Tokyo Olympics, she contributed to a historic performance where TeamGB won more medals across a wider range of sports than ever before. This achievement was all the more remarkable given the challenging and complex environment of the Tokyo Games, held during a global pandemic.
At The FA, Kate’s current role within the technical directorate at St. George’s Park involves working closely with elite England women’s players, providing psychological support as part of head coach Sarina Wiegman’s support team during training camps. In addition to her work with the senior team, Kate also plays a key role in ensuring a consistent psychological approach is integrated across all development teams, reinforcing The FA’s commitment to strengthening the women’s player pathway and ensuring long-term success at all levels.
