Felicity Aston MBE is a British polar explorer, author, and scientist. She was the first woman to ski solo across Antarctica. She leads numerous polar expeditions, writes extensively, and co-presents documentaries. Felicity supports various expedition-related organisations and researches airborne microplastics on Arctic sea ice.

About Felicity Aston
Felicity Aston MBE is a distinguished British polar explorer, author, speaker, and research scientist. In 2012, she made history as the first woman to ski solo across Antarctica, covering 1,744 km in 59 days, a feat recognized by the Guinness World Records. Felicity’s Antarctic journey began in 2000 with the British Antarctic Survey as a meteorologist, spending two and a half years at Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic Peninsula to study climate and ozone.
She has led numerous expeditions to remote regions, notably the Polar Regions. Her notable achievements include the first British women’s crossing of Greenland, a 6,000 km drive to the South Pole, a 36,000 km journey to the Pole of Cold, and leading international women’s teams on ski expeditions to both the North and South Poles.
Felicity’s innovative approach to sharing expedition experiences includes her Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition, which was the first to ‘Tweet to the Pole,’ and her Pole of Cold expedition, which became a travelling art exhibition. She has authored five books, contributed to several others, and frequently writes for various publications
In 2013, she co-presented the BBC Science documentary ‘Operation Cloud Lab: Secrets of the Skies,’ and in 2016, she retraced the 1898 Klondike Goldrush route for a BBC History documentary mini-series. Her filmography includes a climate change documentary by Groundtruth Productions for COP26 and ‘Exposure,’ a film about her 2018 Euro-Arabian North Pole expedition.
Felicity actively supports numerous expedition-related organisations and projects as a trustee, patron, or ambassador, including The British Antarctic Monument Trust and The Explorers Club. She is Godmother to the PC6 ice-class expedition ship, Silver Endeavour.
An elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and The Explorers Club, Felicity is also a Society of Women Geographers member. Her accolades include the Churchill Fellowship, the Ginny Fiennes Award, the WINGS WorldQuest Women of Discovery Award, and the Queen’s Polar Medal. She splits her time between her home in Iceland and the UK, currently researching airborne microplastics on Arctic Ocean sea ice with the National Oceanography Centre and the University of Southampton.
