About JJ Chalmers
JJ Chalmers is a former Royal Marine Commando, Invictus Games gold medalist, and TV presenter with an inspiring journey of resilience.
While serving on the frontline in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in 2011, JJ worked closely with Afghan forces and local communities. His life changed forever when he was wounded by an IED blast that claimed the lives of two friends. He woke up a week later in a Birmingham hospital, beginning a long road to recovery, enduring extensive surgeries and rehabilitation.
Determined to embrace life despite his injuries, JJ took on new challenges, including scuba diving and competitive sports. In 2014, he competed in the Invictus Games, captaining the Trike Cycling team and winning gold and bronze medals in Recumbent Cycling, plus a bronze in the 4x100m track.
JJ’s sporting success led to a broadcasting career. He has presented major sporting events, including the Paralympics, IPC Championships, and The Anniversary Games. He became an Invictus Games Ambassador and reported for the BBC, covering ceremonial events like Remembrance Day. His versatility extends to shows like The One Show, BBC Breakfast, Strictly Come Dancing, and Money for Nothing. In 2021, he became the first disabled presenter to cover both the Olympics and Paralympics.
Beyond broadcasting, JJ is a Patron for Help for Heroes and an Invictus Games Ambassador. He travels the UK delivering motivational talks, sharing his extraordinary journey of overcoming adversity, and inspiring others to live life to the fullest.
