About Mark Lane
Mark Lane is a highly acclaimed garden and landscape designer, recognized as the UK’s first garden designer to use a wheelchair and the first BBC gardening presenter in a wheelchair. His contributions to the field have earned him several honors, including a nomination for Celebrity of the Year at the 2021 National Diversity Awards and a spot on The Shaw Trust’s Disability Power 100 List in 2023.
As a broadcaster, Mark is the gardening and plant expert on BBC One’s “Morning Live.” He has also presented for “Gardeners’ World” on BBC Two, BBC Gardeners’ World Live, and the BBC’s coverage of the Royal Horticultural Society’s prestigious Flower Shows, including those at Chelsea, Chatsworth, Hampton Court Palace, and Tatton. He hosts his own show, “Love Gardening With Mark Lane,” on QVC. Additionally, he has made appearances on “The Weakest Link,” “Pointless Celebrities,” “Celebrity Mastermind,” and BBC Radio 4’s “Saturday Live.”
Mark writes a regular gardening column for the Daily Express and has contributed to publications such as the Sunday Times, The Telegraph, and The Guardian. His writing has also appeared in magazines like House Beautiful, Country Living, Good Homes, and BBC Gardeners’ World. His first book, Royal Gardens of the World, was published in 2020. In 2021, he collaborated with artist Sharon Walters for an ITV Ident as part of the ITV Creates campaign.
An ambassador for Leonard Cheshire, Melanoma Fund, Thrive, and Groundwork, Mark has received numerous accolades, including the 2020 Landscape Designer of the Year at the BUILD Architecture Awards. He studied Art History at University College London before transitioning to garden design following a car accident in 2001, studying at KLC, Hampton Court. Mark is a member of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD).
