Mobeen Azhar

Mobeen Azhar, a native of Huddersfield, has spent the past decade in London. He is an accomplished documentary filmmaker and broadcaster with almost 20 years of experience at the BBC, specialising in access-based documentaries for television and radio.

Throughout his career, Mobeen has produced and presented a wide array of compelling documentaries on BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC Three. His work includes in-depth investigations such as “Predator: The Secret Scandal of J-Pop,” “Santa Claus: The Serial Killer,” “Scam Land,” and “Secrets of an ISIS Smartphone.” He has also tackled complex social issues in programmes like “The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship,” “Hometown: A Killing,” and “A Black and White Killing: The Case that Shook America.” Additionally, he has explored cultural and historical topics in documentaries such as “The Satanic Verses: 30 Years On,” “Plastic Surgery Undressed,” and “The Best Pakistani Transgender Retirement Home.” His contributions to “Panorama,” the BBC’s flagship current affairs series, have further cemented his reputation as a leading documentary filmmaker.

Beyond his BBC work, Mobeen is a founding partner of Forest, an independent production company. He has collaborated with various prominent production houses, including BBC Studios, Vice Studios, Expectation, Mentorn, Gobstopper, and ITN Productions, to create impactful programming.

Mobeen also hosts the BBC World Service’s flagship programme “Outlook” and the podcast “Lives Less Ordinary.” His exceptional work has been recognised with numerous awards, including Bafta, Grierson, Broadcast, and Royal Television Society honours.
