About Rebecca Adlington
Rebecca Adlington is one of Great Britain’s most successful female swimmers, achieving worldwide fame after winning two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her remarkable combination of dedication, professionalism, and charisma made her a global superstar and a role model for female athletes. Adlington’s competitive spirit was evident throughout her career, as she won a medal in every Olympic final she participated in, securing two golds in Beijing and two bronze medals at the London 2012 Games.
Following her Beijing success, Rebecca was awarded an OBE by the Queen and received the Laureus World Sports Award for ‘Breakthrough of the Year.’ She retired from elite swimming in 2013 and transitioned into a respected media role, becoming a regular commentator for major international swimming events, including the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2024 Olympics.
In retirement, Rebecca has focused on building her legacy through a swimming initiative aimed at ensuring every child in Britain can swim 25 meters by the time they leave primary school. Her program, SWIM!, offers child-led lessons across the UK, providing top-tier swim instruction to children aged 0-11.
Rebecca’s commitment to women in sports is further reflected in her role as a Patron of Women in Sport, where she works to transform sporting opportunities for women and girls. Additionally, she is an ambassador for the Encephalitis Society, a charity supporting people affected by the illness. As a trusted voice in sports and a successful businesswoman, Rebecca Adlington balances her professional pursuits with motherhood, raising her two children, Summer and Albie.
