About Rob Bonnet
Rob Bonnet is one of the UK’s most celebrated sports broadcasters, with a distinguished career spanning nearly five decades. He has interviewed some of the greatest names in sports and covered major global events such as the Olympic Games, World Cups, Commonwealth Games, the Open Championship, and the Ryder Cup.
Rob’s career began in 1978 as a freelance assistant at Radio Brighton. He joined the BBC in 1980 as a producer at Radio Norfolk. By 1982, Rob transitioned into broadcasting with BBC Sport’s radio department and later became a sports correspondent for BBC TV News in 1987. He served as the main sports presenter on BBC One’s Breakfast News for ten years, a role he held until 2005.
From 2005 to 2019, Rob ran Five Iron Productions, a company specializing in on-site recording, editing, and presenting corporate and charity golf events. Additionally, from 2007 to 2024, he was a presenter on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, the network’s flagship news show.
Rob’s extensive career included reporting on iconic sporting moments and serving as a trusted voice in sports journalism. His final assignment was the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, marking the culmination of nearly 50 years with the BBC. Following his retirement, Rob leaves behind a legacy as one of the most respected figures in sports broadcasting.
