About Sir Chris Hoy
Hoy’s Olympic journey began with a gold medal in the Kilo event at the Athens 2004 Games. When the Kilo was removed from the Olympic program for Beijing 2008, Hoy showcased his adaptability by shifting his focus to the Keirin, Sprint, and Team Sprint events. His incredible versatility was rewarded with gold medals in all three events, a feat that solidified his place in the annals of Olympic history. His success in Beijing earned him the prestigious title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2008, and a Knighthood followed in the 2009 New Year Honours list.
The 2012 London Olympics further enhanced Hoy’s legacy, as he claimed two more gold medals, in the Keirin and Team Sprint, bringing his total to six. This achievement made him Great Britain’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time.
Beyond his athletic prowess, Hoy is also an accomplished scholar, holding a BSc Honours in Applied Sports Science from the University of Edinburgh and three honorary doctorates. His post-cycling career has been equally diverse and successful, encompassing motorsport, children’s literature, and business ventures, such as his HOY bikes range.
Hoy remains a prominent figure in sports media, contributing to major events like the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games. His influence on cycling and sport in general continues to be profound, as he engages in various roles from punditry to public speaking, inspiring future generations.
