About Professor Christie Watson

Christie is a Professor of Medical Humanities at UEA (07/20-), and an award-winning, bestselling writer. She holds a Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa, sits on the Editorial Board of Index on censorship and acts as a Patron for the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.

She has written seven books. Her first novel, Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away, won the Costa First Novel Award and her second novel, Where Women Are Kings was also published to international critical acclaim. Her non-fiction book The Language of Kindness was published in 2018 and was a number one Sunday Times bestseller. It was a Book of the Year in the Evening StandardNew StatesmanThe TimesThe Guardian and The Sunday Times. It has been translated into twenty-three languages, and spent five months in the Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller lists. It is currently being adapted for theatre and television.

In 2025, she is releasing ‘No Filters – A mother and teenage daughter love story’, co-written with her daughter, which discusses the chasm between generations and how to bridge the gaps, discussing identity, race, gender neurodivergence, and the perils of social media.
